Brexit: what next?

 Brexit: What next?  A public panel debate  with guest speaker Julie Girling, MEP (Independent)  and Andrew George, former local MP (Liberal Democrat)  chaired by Mike Sagar-Fenton (local writer and political columnist)As the Tories flounder in their search for a solution to the Brexit deadlock, people are left wondering what is exactly is going on and how we're going to get to the other side of the mess. Meanwhile, the clock ticks on toward 'Brexit Day'.

Local Liberal Democrats hope to shed some light on what is happening - and what might happen next - in a panel discussion to be held in Penzance this week.  The meeting, which is open to all, will take place at St John's Hall on Friday 1st February, starting at 7:30pm.

Big thanks to Vince Cable

Big thanks to Vince Cable for his recent visit to West Cornwall. We enjoyed a return visit to Goonhilly. He backed my efforts to help Goonhilly when the Tory side of the Coalition wanted to frustrate that support. Proud of progress there and at growing local success story Frugi in Helston which we also visited.

Vince was very impressed with the students we met at Penwith College, and enjoyed their their understanding and challenging questions.

We also appreciated another very well attended and successful public meeting with an excellent panel at Helston Community College.


Local Libdem activists take Wetherspoons' Tim Martin to task on “side of a bus” claims.

Last Friday (30th November) the boss of the international pub chain, Tim Martin, made an appearance in his Penzance bar to promote his views on leaving the EU. He had invited supporters of Leave campaigns and the general public to come in and chat.

Some local Lib Dem members including Alice Mumford (pictured) saw the leaflets that Mr Martin was giving out.  This literature claims that all reports predicting retail price increases after March 29th are “lies” and states that “food prices will fall if tariffs end on 29th March”.  None of this, however, was backed up by any evidence.

Caroline White and the local Lib Dems are saying a huge ‘thank you’ for the support they received in the recent election in which they won.

Caroline’s election to town council represents another win for the Cornwall’s Liberal Democrats who have enjoyed recent by-election success across the county.
